And THAT is What Dwarves Look Like

There's been a lot of talk online lately about the look of the dwarves in Peter Jackson's up-coming adaptation of The Hobbit.  It seems like it has been heightening in the past weeks as every couple of days, the studio has leaked a dwarf or two, until the the above rendition of all of them was out.  Feelings are mixed, at the very least.

Sorry, but I'm now going to have to pull Old School rank on all y'all.

This is what dwarves look like, even in their non-Tolkien spelling:

  1. The top picture is so much better of a picture of dwarves, than Disney.

  3. I can't say, as a Tolkien purist, that I'm very happy about that pic. I mean, where are the distinctive colored hoods??? My husband and I will likely be boycotting the movie when it comes out.

  4. Jasmitch: Every time they were off scene, the other Rankin-Bass dwarves beat the stuffin's out of 'em, with their pointy noses and young, smirky faces.

  5. Sarah: Instead of pointing out that the distinctively colored hoods would put them firmly in the camp of the Old School Seven, I'll offer hope: there could well be scenes with them in the distinctively colored hoods. Many of them are not wearing cloaks in the above image.

  6. I've got no problem with the PJ Dwarves, IF these are their costumes for the Battle of 5 Armies. They're all visually distinct, which is important on film. How many war movies have you watched where you're not sure who's getting shot up because everyone's wearing the same uniform?

Hopefully, for the journey to the Lonely Mountain, they'll have fewer weapons and more colorful hoods.

  7. Jeff: I was tempted to buy every Grumpy outfit at Disney World.

    Lord G: Good point.
