Happy A-Z Interlude Sunderday!

Today I offer a short respite from the frightful horrors of this month's A-Z monster challenge, but rest assured that "Master of the Monstrous" Mike will be back for you tomorrow to continue his foray into eroding your sanity. :)

Continuing on from last week's weighty instalment, today I give you some heavy metal to equip your powerhouse fighter with. This one’s not going to be for everyone I know and its drawback makes it almost unusable by all but the strongest of characters but, as with what Paizo have done (and I really like the way they’ve handled this), I think that sometimes a somewhat sub-optimal choice is a valid one for making a flavourful character.

So without further ado, I give to you the Iron Shield!

Shield Wall
These shields come in many different varieties, one of which is described below.
All Walls brought into creation by a Shield Wall can only be formed vertically and cannot be moved or pushed in any way.
To create a Wall, the bearer must place the shield in front of herself at the midpoint of where she wants the Wall to be formed. The Wall then comes into being from a point touching the facing edge of the shield. A Wall always lasts for 1 round per Caster Level and cannot be dismissed early. Each Wall ability can be used three times per day, although any other abilities the Shield may possess are always active. Unless stated in the Description, they require a Standard Action to activate.
A new Wall cannot be brought into existence until any previous Wall has expired.

Iron Shield
Aura Moderate Conjuration; CL 14th
Slot shield; Price 110,490gp; Weight 75 lb.
This +1 Tower Shield is made from thick iron, not wood or steel, and weighs so much that only someone with Strength of 16 or more can wield it without taking a further -2 penalty to their melee attacks (-4 total). It can create a wall of iron as per the spell.
In addition it also has the moderate fortification special ability and provides DR 5/bludgeoning.
Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, limited wish, wall of iron; Cost 55,245gp

  1. You weren't kidding! :)

I really like the extra abilities you gave the shield. They are a perfect fit for it.

  2. The original iteration didn't have the DR, but I figured that with the additional penalty built in it should have something to entice those without the higher strength to use it as well. I settled on Bludgeoning for the DR as I figured that the thick iron would protect against cuts and slashes but could be hammered against to beat the shield back.
